q: who are q & a?
a: q & a are quinn luke & alexis georgopoulos.
q: how did quinn and alexis meet?
a: the two were introduced by chris veltri, owner of legendary record shop groove merchant in san francisco. veltri and luke had made a pair of plunderphonic dusted disco 12 inches under the name coppa. georgopoulos was a founder of the group tussle and asked if coppa would do a tussle remix. this led to luke acting as producer on the tussle album telescope mind.

the detroit duo known as reference focuses on the soul of electronic music, not the hype, staying true while working to promote the expression of underground music and dance culture. luke hess is a name synonymous with a new wave of detroit techno producers, but his roots go deeper than that. his continued dedication to musicianship and his natural talent as a dj have allowed him to release music on some of the most respected labels in the genre, and play some of the most prestigious clubs in the world. brian kage is the founder of the record label beretta music. along with a countless number of successful releases, brian s experience as a producer, dj, and label head has helped catapult the careers of some of today s brightest and best artists in the dance music community.
already played by: adam beyer, gel abril, len faki, joseph capriati, alan fitzpatrick, edit select, luke slater, dustin zahn, mihalis safras, secret cinema, paco osuna...!!! touched hits the road with another strong release. this time with a power production by bessioud mohamed khaled aka >m0h< from canada, as well as two great remixes by gary beck! no need to introduce gary beck, since hes made his name during the last years and earned massive respect by putting out music on labels such as: soma, edit-select, minus, figure & many more! m0hs tracks come along in a powerful but very multilateral way, which makes us confident, that you will hear more of this guy in the future!
reference (planet e / echospace / beretta) consists of the detroit-based artists luke hess & brian kage. in the first reference vs project we squeezed some of the party out of seth troxler and some of the percussion expertise from ryan crosson to create the still sought after tracks >the fade< and >the bumps<. in the second installment of our reference vs series we wanted to get a bit more soulful, & deep with the music, and highlight two of the worlds finest dub techno artists - stephen hitchell (cv313) and marko furstenburg (surphase). stephen hitchell aka cv313 is first a sound engineer. his experiments with synthesis create a warm, ethereal, and organic analog sound all his own. in the reference vs projects we seek to extract the natural strengths of the artist. when we received the files from stephen we knew we were packing heat! we structured our zone around the life-like chord structure that cv313 so effortlessly creates and gave it some more dance floor flavor. we believe the track titled >the wake< will fill dance-floors over the summer months on the beach as well as in the clubs. what can we say. markos shuffled dub stab style has been in demand since the artist started releasing on thinner back in 2002. mr. fürstenbergs deep and emotional music is an extension of his character. we were happy to receive what we expected from marko, super percussive, cavernous, and soulful soundscapes. again we referenced the package out with some drones, new analog rhythms, and eureka. the zone continues relentlessly in >the swell< to carry the dancer through the night into another summer day in the sun
as a fellow ostgut ton recording artist and berghain regular, the connections between berlins marcel fengler and luke slater go beyond the usual mutual respect between artists. this is berghaininspired music at its best for which fengler is known!
dj support by doc martin, luke solomon, rob mello, anthony collins, sebo k., raresh, matthias kaden! the latest cut from the house of horizontal comes courtesy of head seamstress herself dinky. it comes as no surprise then that æpaquitaÆ û our eponymous a-side heroine û dances as well as she dresses. with unabashed bounce in the bass, a hip-shaking kick and impassioned vocal hook, the track issues funk and soul in abundance as it makes headway towards sumptuous stabs of a delectably old-school flavour. matthew styles weaves his thread through proceedings to tailor a revamp of æpaquitaÆ in deftly-cut club couture. elements of dub bubble over a relentlessly driven beat in what is a typically cool and candid offering from the horizontal stalwart.

both luke vibert and radioactive man are seminal electronic producers who always deliver with a flourish. they have continued to impress recently with viberts >we hear you< album for planet mu and radioactive mans >growl< album on his own control tower that was also picked up for fabrics in-house label. luke vibert puts a kerrier district spin onto his version of tudor disco, which will move your mind and your feet with its driving acid groove, while radioactive mans luscious remix of urgent takes its influence from carl craigs (69) track desire.
deacon is the salvador dali of electro... a refreshing example of someone rewriting rules of music as he goes along the guardian by now youll know baltimores dan deacon. dubbed >oddball< by many, >inspired< by more hes one guy treading many thin lines - confidently straddling between nutjob and genius, downright brilliant and insanely mind-bending, and with a live show from another world inducing more audience participation than a seriously skewed pantomime. the label amazing sounds has brought together kindred spirits hudson mohawke, allez-allez and luke abbott to create a rich and varied ep which mirrors dan deacons rich and varied music. this is only the second release on amazing sounds, the first being a 12inch of remixes from the krautrock classic harmonia & eno 76 album tracks & traces (with remixes from shackleton and appleblim & komonazmuk). this next vinyl release is a one time only pressing of 500 copies

luke slaters mote-evolver label is enjoying an impressive run of form. having chalked up one of the standout cuts of the autumn in the shape of cari lekebuschs >spindizzy< and dropped two floor-shaking futuristic techno megabombs from ortin cam (>carnage< & >felt<) either side of the new year there can be little doubt that the long-standing label is as relevant now as it ever has been.

dark beat is a new label from glasgow, set up to promote its own take on deep, dark atmospherical techno.
after the success of their digital releases this is our first dark beat remixes vinyl which has cuts from the very popular omen and untamed eps from label bosses deepbass & roman toletski.
on the a side we have oddity with a massive remix from mark broom. his remix of oddity is a no nonsense stripped back techno affair with a ripping synth line, the track teases you with a number off small drops before the massive atmospheric breakdown which would bring carnage on any dance floor.
on the b side we have the orb theory with a remix from edit select who seems to be able to to no wrong with his string of releases on his self named label edit select records. his remix explores the realms of atmospherical techno and has a straight up tribal feel about it, this track has been creating quite a fuss at berlins berghain during the early hours. the track has a percussive drive with rolling snares and a beautiful synth line that rises and fades throughout the track.
the tracks have been getting massive support from dubfire, len faki, jpls, ambivalent, drumcell, audio injection, dustin zahn, perc, dj emerson, alan fitzpatrick, alex bau, anderson noise, danny tenaglia, chris fortier, jim masters, par grindvik, hernan cattaneo, anthony pappa and luke slater.

michel cleiss simply superb la mezcla, an epic, rambling masterpiece based on the colombian folk sounds of totó la momposina y sus tambores. originally supported by djs as diverse as luciano (whose cadenza label first released the track), ricardo villalobos, laidback luke, louie vega and erick morillo, la mezcla is the authentic, real deal and now the proud recipient of the prestigious ibiza track of the season at the pacha dj awards 2009. and with impeccable timing, copyright tear the roof off as they deliver the first of a long, carefully selected and much awaited remix package ! btw our favourite is charles webster club mix on b2 !! excellent !

with smashing contributions by electro lord legowelt from dirty brown the hague and bleep addict garçon taupe from the bourgeois slums of amsterdam, narrominded presents the fourth installment in its renowned split lp series. both sides of this split lp comprise a whole ep in length, and the contributions have in common that they are both deeply rooted in electro music.
on garçon taupes wittenburg ep, eighties infected drum computer beats and heavy bass lines pave the way for some rather cheerful and unpretentious melodies. the five tracks were mixed to tape at rude 66s triple six lounge studio, and reveal influences from electronic pioneers like yellow magic orchestra and mantronix, to todays acid freaks like luke vibert and like a tim. the end result is a catchy mixture of electro and acid.
legowelt explores the darker corners of electronic music in four tracks leaning on eerie vocals and grungy electro beats. his land rovers in astrophysics ep takes us to mysterious environments. we are spacing out on the force of the stars, the universe, etc, and dancing to hypnotic drums on a mystical trip to pago pago west samoa. legowelt not only knows how to to satisfy a dance floor, but is also capable of deeply appealing to the listeners imagination.

luke slaters mote evolver label is not pulling any punches. having shaken the techno scene to its boots last month with the release of ortin cams no-holes-barred >carnage<, the label moves on to their funky 13th release.
the name cari lekebusch is synonymous with what has made techno the musical powerhouse that it has become. globally recognized as a founding force behind the swedish techno movement alongside the triumvirate of adam beyer, jesper dahlbäck and joel mull, lekebuschs distinctive musical style and creative integrity has graced leading label from drumcode to soma to harthouse and turbo and spawned a career that has maintained over nearly two decades.
spindizzy is a deftly crafted funked-up tech house track. constructed from a palette of harmonically aligned keys, bass and horns, its intensity comes from the measured way in which each element is given the space to breath its own energy into the mix. pacey but musical, subtle yet memorable, this is a standout record.
luke slater adding his bass sodden l.b dub corp twist to the track completes the package. deeply dubbed-out tribal rhythms take the mix on a more left-of centre path that winds through a busy soundscape of atmospheric acoustics that seem to breathe in deeply before being exhaled in a release of firing percussion.
you may not have heard so much from andre (aka &me) so far. instead of the flash and glitter associated with most of his producer colleagues, hes preferred to stay in the shadows, co-producing and ghost writing for artists like dj hell and terranova. now after putting out his first solo single on keinemusik, which was supported by all the key players (front room label boss jesse rose, luke solomon, gabriel ananda, danny tenaglia and dubfire plus many more) &me is finally ready to go public as they say. he may have taken some time to figure out his own style of blending techno and house music but now hes out theres really no escape. with a name like an attention deficit childs mantra its a wonder he stayed in so long. the on ep is an excursion into the type of techno dusted pulsating minimal house that has been so big for artists like luciano esse and arnaud le texier and which is heard on heavy rotation in berlin meccas like bar25. with a side on ever present digital squelches (reminiscent of a rolf harrris style wobble board) are laid over shakers, stripped-back beat and the familiar on vocal. its not hard to understand why tiefschwarz have been rinsing it for quite some time now as a huge afterhours groover. b side talking days, swimming in lush deep techno elements, weaves through more melodic territory but is no less infectious
superhero by the glass, the second single off their upcoming album, is a pop leaning dancefloor track with an infectious hook. remixes come courtesy of uks luke solomon, founder of classic recordings with derrick carter, and all round house music champion. lukes mix is an old skool rave dub with pulsing percussion, trippy synths and a wonderful retro bassline. esl recordings ursula 1000 plays up the hip hopelements in the original production with 80s electro feel, shimmering hats and a 90s ravey vibe. finally newcomer bit thief brings an amazing nu house remix to the table with an incredible conga heavy mix which includes tenor sax honks and much much more… the glass are on tour in the usa in september and europe in october and december!!!
